Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of
The Black Writers Guild of America. Your membership
gives you the chance to play a key role in building a
strong network of writers worldwide. The majority of our
members are writers, editors, self-published authors,
published authors, poets, screen writers, playwrights,
entrepreneurs. As a member of BWGA, we urge you to
invite others to join us in our building stages.
Membership Criteria
When attempting to build an organization such as BWGA
and establish a satisfactory source of self-published,
published authors, playwrights, screenwriters, journalists,
poets, writers, and etc. - it must be predicated on several
factors, i.e. Literary work of the writer, their
commitment to the organization, their ability to see our
vision, and also have visionary sight themselves.

How to become a supporter? It's simple. We are always
seeking companies that provide publishing services for
our members special projects. The more companies and
professionals who offer their services, the more we could
fulfill projects handed to us from our current members.

WHAT IS THE BWGA?
The Black Writers' Guild of America is a professional
organization that supports writers of various backgrounds
and literary genres. Our members are among the best in
major and independent publishing. BWGA was established
as an affiliate network and consists of over 500 creative
professionals nationwide. With our diverse background
and extraordinary pool of talent, BWGA is raising the
standards for artistic excellence and quality
representation.

Our mission is to acknowledge the literary achievements
of African American writers and provide opportunities for
advancement.
WHO CAN JOIN THE BWGA?
Authors, writers, journalists, publishers, screen writers,
songwriters, editors, agents, distributors, book clubs, and
book lovers.

WHY CHOOSE BWGA?
BWGA is a reputable company that provides advocacy,
education and support for our writers in a very
competitive industry. We are the new home to authors,
writers, journalists, publishers, screenwriter's, editors,
agents, distributors, book clubs, and book lovers. It is a
forum for African American writers to find their voice
through public presentations of their work. BWGA is
available to anyone in the United States and abroad who
is actively involved in the publishing industry. We
welcome an array of writing styles and encourage
members to join any of our specialty forums and round
table discussions that focus on specific areas of writing,
such as; editing, printing, marketing, public relations,
promotion, and distribution.
CAN A BUSINESS OR CORPORATION JOIN THE BWGA?
Yes, the Guild provides membership for businesses,
corporations, schools, organizations, and other groups of

DO I HAVE TO BE A PROFESSIONAL TO JOIN THE GUILD?
No. The BWGA membership is comprised of people from
many backgrounds and disciplines and includes beginners,
hobbyists, students, and professionals.

AM I A MEMBER AFTER I FILL OUT THE FORM?
You are not officially a member until you have received
the Welcome Letter, which usually takes between 7-10
days after submitting your main registration form with
your payment. This letter is confirmation of your
successful application and approval for membership.
I NEVER RECEIVED MY WELCOME LETTER, NOW WHAT?
If, after 7-10 days of submitting your main registration
form, you have not received your confirmation of
successful application, call 1-646-229-1711. Supply them
with your name registered under and the email address
you used on your application.
HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT IS NEW WITH THE GUILD?
To keep informed about the latest news and
announcements from the BWGA, you should subscribe to
the BWGA mailing list. This is a one-way distribution list
for official Guild announcements, requests for volunteers,
pending Board motions, and other items of interest to
BWGA members.
ARE THERE ANY RULES I HAVE TO FOLLOW?
Yes. All BWGA members must uphold the Charter and
Bylaws
WHERE DO I VOLUNTEER?
The Guild maintains its membership through our
dedicated volunteers. A volunteer application is available,
by requesting one at volunteer@bwga.org.
I JUST WANT TO BE A MEMBER. DO I HAVE TO
SUBSCRIBE TO ANY MAILING LISTS?
The only mailing list that you must subscribe to is BWGA
membership newsletter. Mailings for this newsletter is
once per month at maximum. This newsletter is only
posted to notify the members of new services and other
important news about your membership.
I AM NOT A MEMBER. CAN I STILL ATTEND A SEMINAR,
WORKSHOP OR CONFERENCE?
Yes, BWGA offers non-members a non-discounted
admission fee to attend any seminar, workshop, lecture
or conference when available. Non-members can join on
the General Membership level to enjoy the benefits of
reduced admission to all events sponsored by BWGA.
